Types of Lilies We Sell
Hardy Lily is one of the few summer flowering bulbs that may be left in the ground over the winter and still continue to bloom and multiply year after year. As soon as the bloom has faded, remove it so that seeds do not form. The stem and foliage of the blossom are needed to build the bulb for the next year’s growth.
LA-hybrid and Asi-Florum lilies are a result of cross breeding Asiatic and Longiflorum lilies. They are sometimes spotted, not very fragrant, and available in a wide variety of colors. The flowers of Asi-Florum lilies are much bigger (some up to 9” diameter) than the LA-Hybrids, while the LA-Hybrids produce more flowers.
Oriental lilies have larger flowers than the LA-hybrids and are fragrant. They are open-faced and sometimes spotted.
OT-hybrids (result of cross-breeding Oriental and Trumpet lilies) offer the sweet fragrance and shape of Oriental lilies with impressive new colors.
Lily Growing Tips
Plant in late spring after the ground warms to 50°F. Dig a hole 6 deep, place the bulb in the hole pointed side up, cover with soil and water thoroughly. Lilies prefer well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Supply moisture and ample organic material through the growing season and mulch to keep roots cool and moist. Allow stems to die back naturally in the fall. Divide every 3-4 years.
