Harris Seeds Harvesting Cabbage

The Rochester, N.Y., company was founded in 1879 by Joseph Harris, an English immigrant who used his expertise in the selection of superior strains of vegetables and grains to build a successful business that was owned and managed by his family for three generations.

The company founder’s grandson, Joe Harris, was chiefly responsible for introducing some of the exceptional quality vegetable hybrids still found in the grower and home garden marketplaces today.

About a century after its founding, the Harris family sold the company to corporate owners. Harris Seeds’ current private ownership acquired the business in the mid-1980s, keeping the company in Rochester and continuing to this day to follow Joseph Harris’ philosophy – “offer our customers a quality product at a fair price, and they will return.”
